Miss Representation

As the most persuasive and pervasive force of communication in our culture, popular media is educating yet another generation that a woman’s primary value lies in her youth, beauty, and sexuality—and not in her capacity as a leader. Writer/director Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s documentary film Miss Representation interweaves stories from teenage girls with provocative interviews from Condoleezza Rice, Lisa Ling, Nancy Pelosi, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Gloria Steinem, and others. (2011, Dir. Jennifer Seibel Newsom, color, 90 min.)

ALL HAMMER PUBLIC PROGRAMS ARE FREE. Hammer members receive priority seating, subject to availability. Reservations not accepted, RSVPs not required.

Parking is available under the museum for $3 after 6:00pm.
